Using Lasers to Remove Stretch Marks
Stretch marks are a problem faced by anyone who has lost a lot of weight in a short period of time. The ones who are most affected by stretch marks are women who have just gone through a pregnancy. Due to the adjustment of the skin to accommodate the woman’s growing body and the child inside of her, the skin starts loosing its elasticity and firmness. As the skin around the abdomen area gets stretch continuously, stretch marks start appearing during pregnancy and it does not go away even after child birth. Similar stretch marks appear on the skin of those people who have lost lot of weight suddenly due to various exercises or even certain cosmetic plastic surgery procedures.
To remove stretch marks, you can either use creams or other home remedies, or you can also use laser stretch mark removal procedures to reduce to appearance of the stretch marks to quiet an extent. It should be noted that complete removal of stretch marks is often not possible even with laser treatments or stretch mark removal creams. Depending upon how bad your stretch marks appear, you can decide whether you want to continue to use a home remedy or use laser treatments to reduce the appearance of these stretch marks.
If you intend to opt for laser stretch mark removal treatments, you should keep in mind that the entire procedure would take at least a few visits to the plastic surgeon and also it would cost a few thousand dollars. However, some women say it is worth going through the laser stretch mark removal treatment as it was able to reduce the stretch marks to quite an extent. Again it should be noted that complete removal is often not possible. Also sometimes stretch mark removal creams, lotions and other treatments are not able to reduce the stretch marks by even 5%. In such cases a laser treatment could be worth the time and price.
Usually there are no drawbacks of the laser stretch mark removal treatment but those with dark skin are generally advised not to opt for such kind of procedures as the laser could cause hyperpigmentation on the skin. Also there is no guarantee for the laser treatment to work at all. Certain plastic surgeons say while some patients are extremely happy with the result, in other cases no visible changes were seen even after treatment. Hence laser stretch mark removal comes with the risk of it not working on your skin at all.
