Exploring Neck Lift Surgery

Just the term “Neck Lift Surgery” makes a lot of people raise an eyebrow. Not everyone is aware that such a kind of cosmetic plastic surgery exists and yet a neck lift is being performed regularly by plastic surgeons across United States and Canada. While everyone has heard of all the other “lifts” such as facelift or eyelift surgery, a neck lift surgery is probably the least popular of all related cosmetic surgeries.

So what exactly is the neck lift? A neck lift actually is a surgical procedure whereby skin around the neck is tightened to reduce the signs of ageing. This could include reversing appearance of wrinkles, sagging skin or skin that appears to be wobbly so to speak. A neck lift surgery not only allows the skin around your neck to feel much tighter and younger, it also works on the muscles including your jaw line. A neck lift surgery has started to get popular because you can combine it with a face lift as well to give your entire face and neck a much younger and youthful appearance. In fact many plastic surgeons have started recommending this procedure to their clients who desire an elegant and smoother neck line. The medical name for a neck lift surgery is Platysmaplasty.

A neck lift surgery can be performed on any individual who is considered healthy enough for a face lift or other type of cosmetic surgeries. Of course non smokers benefit more from this type of surgery whereas those who smoke regularly could end up doing a lot of damage to their neck line as well as their muscles post surgery. Also if you are on any kind of specific medication then you need to disclose to your plastic surgeon the reason for taking those medications and your overall health condition. Your plastic surgeon might recommend stopping of any medication or drugs prior to surgery. You will also be advised to take full rest for about ten days after surgery. It is also common to feel a lot of discomfort immediately after a neck lift surgery and you have to consult with your surgeon to ease some of the pain. If proper care is not taken after a neck lift surgery, it could lead to complications and you may not be able to perform various daily activities without feeling a lot of discomfort.

Neck lift surgery will cost upwards of $3000 depending upon your plastic surgeon and location. Costs would also depend on whether you have opted for a neck lift as a standalone procedure or along with a face lift.
